General Questions
How often should I get a cleaning?
Many patients are seen about every six months, while some periodontal care plans call for more frequent visits. Your dentist and hygienist will recommend an interval based on your oral health.
Do you take my insurance?
DentalPros works with many major insurance carriers. Call with your current plan information so the office can confirm participation and discuss how benefits may apply.
Why do I need X-rays?
X-rays can reveal areas that are not visible during a routine exam and may help the clinician diagnose concerns and plan care. Recommendations depend on your history and clinical needs.
Dentistry
Is fluoride important?
Fluoride helps strengthen tooth enamel and can reduce the risk of decay. Your dental team can recommend toothpaste, in-office treatment, or other options based on your needs.
What is a deep cleaning, and why do I need one?
Scaling and root planing removes buildup below the gumline when routine cleaning is not enough. Your dentist or hygienist will evaluate your gums and explain whether periodontal treatment is appropriate.
Crown vs Filling?
A filling repairs a smaller area of damaged tooth structure. A crown covers and supports more of the tooth when damage, decay, or fracture is more extensive.
Orthodontics
If I double my elastics, will my treatment go faster?
No. Use elastics exactly as prescribed. Wearing more than instructed can apply the wrong amount of force and may interfere with treatment.
Can I eat with my retainers on?
Retainers are generally removed before eating or drinking anything other than water unless your orthodontist gives different instructions.
How long do I have to wear my retainers?
Retention schedules vary. Follow the schedule your orthodontist provides; long-term nighttime wear is commonly recommended to help maintain alignment.
Oral Surgery
What can I eat after getting extractions done?
Follow the written instructions provided by your surgical team. Patients are often directed toward liquids and soft foods at first, but recommendations depend on the procedure and recovery.
Why can't I get my extraction the same day?
Medical history, medications, imaging, procedure complexity, and scheduling can affect timing. The team first evaluates the tooth and plans an appropriate next step.
What is the difference between Local Anesthesia, Twilight Anesthesia, and General Anesthesia?
Local anesthesia numbs a specific area while you remain awake. Sedation can help you relax while remaining responsive, while general anesthesia produces a controlled state of unconsciousness. Your surgical team will review the option appropriate for you.
